First Release

After a few weeks of work the game is finally shown and I can say that I'm pretty happy with what was achieved. This project first started with me trying to finally finish something on my own. I had a good friend pushing me to keep developing. Most of that time was spent with me learning about shaders and some simple systems put in. The game had very little focus and for the most part I was just putting things in. At some point the game was supposed to be a Zelda like game. I was in need of some scope reduction. I got jtara1 involved with the game and the project started taking shape during the My First Game Jam: Summer 2021

Ultimately what was released for the game jam is intended more of a taste of what's to come. Two weeks is not a lot of time for anything too substantial and it really shows with just how much content is here. There is only one level and it can be beat in less than 5 minutes. It is a very tiny taste to say the least. Worse yet is when the game was released there was some horrible hitching problems due to not understanding how the Godot engine handles shaders. This issue was invisible to me and jtara1 while testing because the shaders were already cached. It's kind of some fun jank but the engine has to render a shader before it can cache it. How this was solved was by forcing a bunch of materials and particles in front of the camera for a brief moment. The end result in the editor is all sorts of crazy.

No amount of weird jank could stop us though and we made that first release. It is still a bare game but I see the potential with what is there. I need to keep things simple but for now what is planned is an artillery enemy, some explosive weapon to deal with crowds, and of course more levels.
